Can I go off-grid with solar?

When you install solar panels on your property, you remain connected to the grid. This connection allows you to draw power from the grid when your system isn’t generating enough energy and send excess power back to the grid when you produce more than you use. While it is possible to go off the grid with a solar energy system that includes battery storage, this option is more expensive and generally unnecessary for most homeowners.
