West Virginia Electric Vehicle Tax Credits, Rebates, and Incentives
3 Min. Read
Electric vehicles (EVs) account for only a relatively small number of vehicles on West Virginia’s roads, but interest in driving electric is growing.
With programs like time-of-use charging and efforts from the state to grow its public EV charging infrastructure, EV adoption is becoming increasingly appealing. Read on to learn more about going electric and potentially saving with a West Virginia EV rebate.
West Virginia EV Rebates
There is no West Virginia EV rebate as of 2025, but you can get an EV for less by taking advantage of federal tax credits. You should also stay tuned for future rebates the state might offer.
Federal Tax Credit
When filing your federal taxes, you can claim the New Clean Vehicle Tax Credit if you meet a few conditions.
This tax incentive is a nonrefundable credit of up to $7,500 that will reduce your tax liability provided that you bought a qualifying EV and meet some income requirements.
You can also claim a federal tax credit to help pay for a residential EV charger if you live in a non-urban or low-income area.
Businesses can also claim these credits to reduce their tax bill after investing in electric fleet vehicles and charging solutions.
West Virginia EV Charger Rebates
There are no utilities offering EV charger rebates in West Virginia. You can still save by shopping around for an affordable Level 2 home charger. Investing in at-home charging will also help you save compared to public EV charging.
West Virginia EV Charging Rates for Residents
Upgrading your home with a Level 2 charger means you can pay residential electric rates instead of public ones. With West Virginia utilities charging $0.16 per kWh on average, it’s the equivalent of paying $0.04 to $0.05 per mile if your EV gets between three and four miles per kWh.
You can also take advantage of time-of-use electricity rates to charge your EV for less.
Appalachian Power
If you’re a customer of Appalachian Power, the largest electricity provider in West Virginia, you can enroll in an optional time-of-use plan with lower rates at night.
With this rate, you’ll pay $0.17 per kWh between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. At night, your rate will drop to $0.12 per kWh.
