Did you know that Idaho offers electric vehicle (EV) incentives and rebate programs that can help you save on your purchase and even reduce your charging costs? There has never been a better time to make the switch to an EV in the Gem State.

In this guide, we will explore the available Idaho EV rebate programs to maximize your savings and make your transition to an EV even more affordable.

Idaho EV Incentives

Many local utility companies provide EV incentives that help you offset the cost of home EV chargers and offer special electricity rates designed for EV owners. Plus, with Idaho’s average residential electricity rate under $0.11 per kWh, charging at home remains one of the most cost-effective ways to power your vehicle.

Federal EV Tax Credit

While there are no state EV tax credits available as of 2025, you can claim up to $7,500 as a federal tax credit when you buy an EV. This credit helps reduce the amount of federal income tax you owe, making EV ownership even more affordable.

How It Works:

  • The credit is nonrefundable, meaning it can lower your tax bill but won’t result in a refund if the credit exceeds what you owe.
  • To qualify, both the buyer and the vehicle must meet specific eligibility criteria.
  • Income limits apply, so your earnings must fall within the specified range.
  • The EV must be on the list of eligible models and meet requirements for battery size, assembly location, and price limits.
  • Businesses in Idaho can also take advantage of this credit when purchasing EVs.

It’s important to note that the credit phases out for each EV manufacturer after they sell a certain number of qualifying vehicles. Therefore, it’s best to take advantage of this credit while you can, as availability may vary by brand and model.

Idaho EV Charger Rebates

Charging your EV at home offers 24/7 convenience and significantly lower costs compared to public charging stations. With a Level 2 EV charger, you can charge up to six times faster than a standard outlet, ensuring your vehicle is always ready to go.

Charging at home is not only more affordable, but Idaho utility companies also offer rebates to help reduce the cost of purchasing and installing a Level 2 charger, making home charging even more cost-effective.

It’s essential to hire a licensed EV installer to set up your charger, ensuring the installation is safe and effective so you can maximize the benefits of your charging system.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative EV Charger Rebate

Kootenai Electric Cooperative offers homeowners an EV charger rebate of up to $350 toward the purchase of an at-home Level 2 charger.

The cooperative also offers custom rebates for businesses, so be sure to contact them to inquire about rebates for your commercial EV charging project.

EV Charging Rates in Idaho

Some Idaho utilities provide optional time-of-use rates with variable pricing to help customers save even more on EV charging. By enrolling in these programs, your electric rate will increase during peak demand times and decrease when grid demand is lower. This option is popular among EV owners who can optimize their charging costs by scheduling charging during off-peak hours, typically in the middle of the night.

Idaho Power

Idaho Power customers can save on EV charging by enrolling in the utility’s seasonal time-of-use rate. In the summer, you’ll pay $0.24 per kWh from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., $0.12 per kWh from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and only $0.06 per kWh if you charge from 11 p.m. to 3 p.m.

During the winter, you’ll pay $0.12 per kWh from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Outside of these hours, you’ll pay $0.08 per kWh.

Riverside Electric Cooperative

This cooperative uses a flexible pricing model where energy charges add up to a flat rate you pay for service. Your energy charge fluctuates based on the time of day, so charging your EV during mid-peak or off-peak times will reduce your bill.

Off-peak hours last from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. year-round and come with an energy charge of $0.10 per kWh. On-peak hours begin at 4 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. in the winter and have a wintertime energy charge of $0.14 per kWh. You’ll pay $0.19 per kWh during summertime on-peak hours, which start at 2 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Outside of these hours, the mid-peak energy charge applies, which costs $0.11 per kWh in the winter and $0.12 per kWh in the summer.

Note that your mid-peak and on-peak energy charges can be higher if your energy usage is over a certain threshold, which makes charging your EV during off-peak hours even more beneficial.

Rocky Mountain Power

Rocky Mountain Power’s time-of-use plan uses seasonal time-based pricing. You’ll pay $0.14 per kWh from May to October between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. and drop to $0.05 per kWh at night. Between November and April, electricity will cost $0.12 per kWh from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and only $0.04 per kWh at night.
