Purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) doesn’t have to be expensive, and in Connecticut, residents can take advantage of state, local, and utility rebates and incentives to save even more.

In addition to saving at the pump, you can also significantly reduce your expenses by stacking various federal, state, and utility rebates to save thousands!

Connecticut residents can benefit from several programs aimed at making electrification more affordable, including the state’s EV rebates and incentives offered by local electricity providers.

Find out if you qualify for a Connecticut EV rebate and learn how you can take even more advantage of available savings by buying and installing an EV charger in our latest guide to Connecticut electrification.

Reduced Connecticut EV Registration

In Connecticut, electric vehicle owners benefit from a significantly reduced registration fee, paying only $38 a year at the DMV. This cost-saving measure not only makes owning an EV more affordable but also supports the state’s environmental goals by encouraging more residents to make the switch to electric vehicles.

Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate

Did you know you could save up to $1,500 on your EV purchase in Connecticut? Thanks to the CHEAPR program, Connecticut residents can save on purchasing or leasing eligible plug-in hybrid or fully electric vehicles.

While as of 2025, the standard Connecticut EV rebate is $1,500, income-eligible residents can receive up to $4,500 toward a new EV, up to $5,000 toward a used EV, and up to $3,000 on the purchase of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

Connecticut EV Rebates

You can further maximize your savings on an EV purchase by combining the CHEAPR Connecticut EV rebate, the federal clean vehicle tax credit, and the EV rebates provided by Connecticut utilities.

Norwich Public Utilities

As a customer of Norwich Public Utilities, you can receive up to $1,000 towards the purchase of a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or up to $1,500 for a new electric vehicle (EV). If you’re considering a used EV, the utility offers up to $500 for a used PHEV from 2019 or newer and $1,000 for a used EV from 2019 or newer.

Connecticut EV Charger Rebates

Charging your EV at home is both affordable and convenient. To achieve the best charging speed with your residential electrical infrastructure, it is essential to install a Level 2 charger with the help of a qualified EV charger installation professional.

Several utility providers in Connecticut offer rebates on EV chargers to make at-home charging more affordable. Before scheduling your installation, be sure to verify whether your electricity provider currently offers any rebates for EV chargers, as programs and program requirements are subject to change.

Jewett City Department of Public Utilities

If you get your power through Jewett City Department of Public Utilities, you can qualify for a rebate of $1,500 toward a Level 2 at-home charger.

Businesses can receive up to $4,000 to install an EV charger for workplace, public, or multifamily EV charging projects.

South Norwalk Electric & Water

South Norwalk Electric & Water offers a $1,000 Connecticut EV rebate to help you offset the cost of installing a Level 2 EV charger in your home.

The utility also offers a $3,000 rebate for EV chargers at commercial properties including businesses, multifamily properties, and public areas.

East Norwalk Electric — Third Taxing District of Norwalk

As an East Norwalk Electric customer, you can qualify for a $1,500 rebate toward your residential Level 2 EV charger purchse and installation.

Businesses, multifamily properties, and public entities can apply and get up to $4,000 for their EV charging project.

Norwich Public Utilities

Norwich Public Utilities offers their customers a $1,000 rebate for Level 2 residential EV charger installations.

Workplace EV charging projects and multifamily properties with four or more units are also eligible for a $3,000 rebate, while larger commercial and public charging projects can receive up to $4,000.

Connecticut Charging Rates

Enrolling in a time-of-use (TOU) plan allows EV drivers to take advantage of lower rates for EV chargers when the demand for electricity is lower.

For EV owners who can adjust their charging schedule to align with discounted rates, this can lead to significant savings and help alleviate pressure on the grid.

Although there are currently no Connecticut utilities offering TOU plans, this may be a strategy they consider implementing in the future. In the meantime, comparing electric rates from various resellers in your area can help you save on EV charging costs.
